Geocache “Board in Sea Isle”

Friday, October 1st, 2010

While walking with my dad on vacation. I was showing him the gps on the phone and noticed that we were close to Board in Sea Isle. If you know sea isle this would be a really hard find, well to find it when no one is around because it is in the center of town and a lot of people would be around. But since I am down here after labor day there aren’t too many people down here. So it was easy to find it, get my name on the log.

My dad wanted to know more so i showed him the map on my phone and all the other caches around so we might be walking around tomorrow to find a few more. Hopefully the rain stays away though.

Geocahce “Camp Pns Still Hungry”

Friday, August 6th, 2010

As I was running errands at Lowes today at lunch. I decided to get “Camp Pns Still Hungry” cache. Finding it was no problem but getting it with no one watching was sort of tough. Lets just say there are a lot of stores, lots of cars, lots of people wondering around. Those people are called muggles (A non-geocacher. Based on “Muggle” from the Harry Potter series, which is a non-magical person. Usually this term is used after a non geocacher looks puzzled after befriending a geocacher searching for a cache, or when a non-geocacher accidentally finds a cache. Geomuggles are mostly harmless.)

Because of the amount of people i wasn’t able to take a picture so i will show you a map of where it is located. The green arrow is not where the cache is just where the google thing-a-ma-gi showed up.

This was the first cache that had SWAG (An acronym often referred to as standing for ‘Stuff We All Get.” It includes the trade items left in caches by geocachers). I did not take any of the swag but left a brown nickel i found and was in the truck.

So i guess what i did was TNLNSL which means Took Nothing. Left Nothing. Signed Logbook

If you would like to know more acronyms geocachers use go here http://www.geocaching.com/about/glossary.aspx

On the way out of the shopping center i noticed another cache which i will have to come back for, since i was already out too long on my lunch break.

Geocache “4.5 Laps”

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The second geocache that i decided to do was call “4.5 Laps“. This was another cache located less than a mile from the office. What a great little park it was. It has basketball court, playground, a trail around a soccer field which if your walk 4.5 laps it equals a mile though i didn’t have to walk any laps to find it. I did however walk three laps just because i felt like i should get some exercise.

This cache was a little easier to find after doing “Gate to Nowhere“. Below is a picture of the geocache and the log which i have signed.

Geocache my first one “Gate to Nowhere”

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Today at lunch I decided to get my feet wet and find my first geocache. I found one close to work and left the office. I decided to do “Gate to Nowhere

After using my Nexus One using the c:geo application i quickly found the location and found the geocache. After that headed to the deli near by for a turkey club…what a reward!!

One down millions to go…anyone who would like to join my quest let me know?

Geocaching…

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

On Friday July 30th 2010 the company (NetPlus Marketing) I work for had a GeoCaching event which i really didn’t think much of at the time. But once we got started it took me back to my boy scout days. Yes i was a boy scout you have a problem with it? Just kidding.

Anyway using a GPS device you got coordinates and a clue like “Turf” and you had to find a fake turf which had a geocache. So what is GeoCache

“Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.”

So after the company event I went to http://www.geocaching.com/ and learned a little more about it and checked out where some GeoCahces were around me. There were about 15 within 2 miles of my house. So i signed up and created an account.

I will be posting my adventures in geocaching here…now where to start…
